The first extinct branch of the family.

 Born in Yorkshire but brought to his father's new home in South Durham as a boy.

 It was in the connection with his marriage that his father settled the farm, soon after Spring House, upon him.  From the time of his marriage to his death he preferred to live at Middleton.  Spring House was occupied by either a tenant or bailiff.  Not long after his death his eldest son Thomas went to live at Spring House.
